Why iPhone Water Damage is Common

iphone-water-damageWe carry our iPhones wherever we go: to the office, the parks, the beach, and so on. They can get exposed to the elements if we are not careful and it only takes a few moments of inattention for undesirable things to occur. Sometimes mobile devices can be immersed in water even inside the house.

The Most Frequent Causes of iPhone Water Damage

Pool

When people swim in a pool, their phones are often placed near the edge of the pool for quick access. This habit makes phones vulnerable to being accidentally dropped in the water.

Rain

Sudden showers can leave us drenched and if we are carrying a phone, there is a good chance it will not be dry either. Even when we place it inside a bag or a protective casing, water has an uncanny ability to seep through, anyway.

Washer

We often forget to take stuff like keys, cash, and yes, phones out of our pockets. When our clothes hit the washer, an odd noise will let us know that something is not quite right.

Bathroom

We grow so attached to our phones that they often accompany us to the bathroom, just in case we get an important message or call. It could get splashed with water or succumb to moisture without us knowing until it is too late.  Dropping a phone in a toilet or urinal is quite common, especially since many people use their phone while using the facilities.

Babies

It’s not recommended to lend your expensive electronic devices to a baby as a toy, as it’s not safe for the baby as much as they’re not safe for the phone.  Using the phone as a chew toy will certainly transfer some liquid into the device, but that may be the least of your problems when it comes to the damage a baby can cause.

Wait – Before You Buy a New Phone…

iFixYouri talks to NPR re: water damaged iPhone

Recently our friends over at NPR on a segmant called how to do any gave us a call asking us what we would recommend to do if you suffer from iphone water damage. Well, in a nutshell, take your device and stick it in a bag of rice and let it sit in there for about 2 days.

It was pretty fun. We chatted with the hosts of “How to do everything” for a while and wanted to say a quick thanks!

iPhone Water Damage Repair Steps

A majority of the time your water damaged phone can be repaired. From ocean water to the washing machine, from a mild spill to complete submersion, it really does not matter. We have refined and perfected the process of water damage repair for your broken iPhone. 90% of the time, we can repair your phone to a fully functioning iPhone that has that out of the box, like-new functionality. iFixYouri is the industry leader in water damage repair

iPhone water damage is one of the most common iPhone repair types we see. It is also one of the most deadly to iPhones if you allow corrosion. As the video shows, it is imperative to remove the iPhone out of the water ASAP. Once the iPhone is out of the water, you want to make sure it is powered off.

If you get a white pinwheel on the screen and it won’t turn of, you hold down the power button and home button until it turns off. In the video we failed to record it powering back on after we powered it off. We simply repeated the ‘power off process’ and moved on to the next important step; remove the SIM card.

Once the SIM card is removed you want to put the iPhone in an uncooked bag of rice. Tighten the bag so all extra air is gone and seal it.

If you follow the above above steps and mail the water damaged iPhone we can fix it as good as new. If you decide you want to see if it works for yourself, wait 48 to 76 hours after the water exposure and then try it out. If you find at that time it is not functioning properly as a result of the iPhone water damage put back in the rice and mail to us.

iPhone 4 Water Damage in California

We receive iPhone 4 repair inquiries all of the time and want to start sharing our responses to everyone. We had a lady from the Las Angeles/Santa Barbara/Tulare county area email to ask us:

I just bought and iPhone 4 and soon after spilled a glass of water on it. I dried it off immediately and it worked soon after. But now this morning it won’t turn on. Can you fix it?

Yes, we can fix that. While iPhone 4 water damage can be very bad, we can typically repair over 90% the phones. The big issue is corrosion but there are ways to avoid it. When your iPhone 4 gets wet you should take the back casing off. Then take the battery and SIM card out. Put it in a bag of rise. Or you can blow with hair dryer (on low). Or you can just let it sit with noted parts removed.

Once it is completely dry you mail it to use. We offer diagnostics service if you prefer that in the iPhone 4 repair process. You can see all the needed shipping information during the checkout process. It is very simple and shipping is free. A common problem when people spill water on their iPhone is powering it on or leaving it on. When a phone is not completely submerged people get a false sense of security. Until your iPhone 4 is completely dry you don’t power it on.

This email came from the area in California that encompasses the cities of  Bakersfield, Palmdale, Santa Clarita and Lancaster all of which are near Los Angeles/Santa Barbara/Tulare County. The beauty of the mail-in service is we can help no matter where you live. Let us know if you have any further questions.

iPhone water damage repair – Can a phone be fixed after getting wet?

Here’s a real-life iPhone water damage scenario: Beautiful day, the sun is shining, the weather is great. Friends and family are over for a nice BBQ by the pool. Your buddy decides to shove you into the pool as a prank. You laugh until you realize…Ahhhh, your iPhone is in your pocket! You immediately jump out and begin to panic.

WHAT DO YOU DO?!

Here’s a little breakdown of the game-plan; EXACTLY what you should do. Remember, time is of the essence.

  1. If the phone is ON, TURN IT OFF! Just do it. Water and electricity combined are not what you want. Give them some time apart.
  2. DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON!
  3. Remove any case that you may have on it and remove the SIM card.
  4. Dry it with a towel, and shake out excess water.
  5. Place phone in a bag of silica gel beads, available at most hardware stores. If you don’t have any silica gel on hand, you can put it in dry rice while you go to the store.
  6. Visit our website and select the appropriate iPhone Water Damage Repair service for your generation of iPhone.

You may be saying, well, if I put the iPhone in a bag of silica, and it sucked up all the water, what is the point of sending it in for water damage repair?

When water gets inside a smartphone, even the tiniest amount, corrosion builds up…and quick. We have seen phones with the insides covered in corrosion in less than 24 hours after water exposure.

Our process cleans any kind of corrosion or oils that may have accumulated on the circuit board after it was introduced to water. Without a proper check and cleaning, your phone may work after drying out, but you may lose features one by one in the following days or weeks. Corrosion grows a bit like rust, where it spreads sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly.

If you bring a water damaged phone into Apple, they will gladly exchange it for you…for a steep price. With the exchange, you’ll lose all of your data, and the replacement they give you is a refurbished model, not a new one.

Don’t go through that hassle. Follow the steps and then send it off to iFixYouri as soon as possible. Remember…

  • Turn it OFF
  • Place it in a bag of silica gel or rice
  • Select your generation of iPhone on this page: iPhone Water Damage Repair
  • We’ll fix it, test it, and ship it right back!

We are able to revive iPhones from water damage with a high success rate. Included in the water damage repair process is the replacement of any parts that may have been damaged in the spill.

iPhone Water Damage a threat no matter what?

Is iPhone water damage an issue for the iPhone 4? More importantly, can water damaged phones be repaired?

Recently we performed an iPhone 4 screen test, where it was proven that the glass for the new iPhone is still very much breakable. Even more troubling is that the iPhones have glass on both sides and instead of the glass sitting behind the chrome bezel frame, it sits on top.

The bottom line is that regardless of the upgraded features and style, the iPhone screen repair service is more valuable than ever. It won’t scratch easily at all but the screen is still at risk. Keeping that in mind it’s time to keep tabs on the other big problem area for iPhone owners: iPhone water damage.

We don’t have to run any tests to tell you that the new iPhone can still break if dropped in the toilet, swimming pool or filled beer mug because we don’t need to break a new iPhone to prove the obvious. All of the time we are asked, “My iPhone got wet, what do I do?”

Digging deeper, it has been revealed that many people with broken iPhones have been told their warranty is void at Apple stores because their water sensors have bee tripped, according to Watchdog. Apparently, sweat and other moisture are turning this tablet indicators red. But when you open up the iPhone and really examine it, it is obviously a dry phone.

Apple is playing with fire with practices like this, with its loyal customer base that just now might be noticing there are other phone options. Your iPhone could be void of warranty right now and you don’t even know it! If you have an iPhone wrongly void of warranty let us know.

DIY Options if you iPhone actually does get wet

The first thing to remember to do is CONTACT US ASAP. The next thing to  remember is to not hit any buttons (leave the phone off).

There are many DIY options to consider

iPhone 3G water damage repair and iPhone 3Gs water damage repair work much the same way but if a DIY solution does not work they can be among the more difficult to correct.

When you introduce water into electronics, a big problem that ends up occurring is corrosion. Sometimes the onset of corrosion is within 24 hours, sometimes it takes days, even weeks. But corrosion is a circuit board’s biggest enemy. If you dry it out, and it works, that’s great! But over time, features may begin to fail. This is due to the growth of corrosion and oils left on the board once the water is all gone.

A ‘cheap’ solution goes like this:

  • Take out of case and remove SIM card
  • Shake out any extra water
  • Use a blow dryer on low for a few minutes to get rid of excess water
  • Place iPhone in rice bag, completely covered
  • Leave in rice bag for a few days, blow drying it daily as needed
  • At this point it should be dry and you can try to power it on.

The Right Solution

The iFixyouri Solution is the right one to go with. We use state-of-the-art equipment and tools that are more advanced that many competitors. We’ll ensure that no oils or residues are left on any components, including board, down to the microscopic level. We repair over 90% of water damaged phones, and with us, you know that your iPhone is in good hands. We’re so confident in our repair process that if we can’t fix it, there is no charge to you.
