The Most Dangerous States in America For iPhones

Mishandling of electronic devices is a real issue. Thanks to SquareTrade, a company that deals in warranties, you can know which states are the likeliest to have broken iPads and iPhones. The South is apparently a real graveyard for some products, but the North is not far behind.

Examining both damage and complete breakage, SquareTrade found Mississippi and South Carolina to both be particular dangerous. Mississippi totals the most damage done to iPhones, but South Carolina holds the record for broken iPads.

New Mexico is not far behind Mississippi, and ranks number 2 for a dangerous place for iPhones to be. Maybe it’s called “New” Mexico cause everybody has to frequently replace their devices.

SquareTrade informs us that drops and beverage accidents are the most likely causes for damage. Some of the southern states have a reputation for being boisterous, and perhaps a little reckless. Maybe this contributes to the problem?

Other Dangerous States for iPhones

Other dangerous US states for iPhones are Rhode Island and North Dakota. For iPads, Nebraska, Washington D.C. and Alaska are not good places to be. Perhaps the devices are succumbing to the cold while people use them for navigation.

SquareTrade routinely puts electronic devices through rigorous testing to see how much abuse they can take. Ironically, it means being in the hands of an employee of the company might end be being one of the worst places to be for one of these great products.

Why Repairing your iPhone is Always Worth the Cost

Many people question if it’s worth the money to repair a damaged iPhone.  I am here to dispel any rumors and clear up any misunderstanding that people have when it comes to the value of the iPhone and the cost efficiency of the repairs.  The truth is that it is always wise to repair a broken iPhone, even if you are going to trade or sell it.

First, some basic facts about how much an iPhone really costs.  As many readers know, an iPhone’s true cost is not the price you actually paid for it at the AT&T, Verizon, or Apple store when you sign a new two year contract.  The price you paid when you signed a contract is actually a subsidized price, so what you paid is reduced by the company since you are agreeing to be with them for at least two years.  You can also be granted this price if you are eligible for an upgrade, which is usually available every 12 to 20 months depending upon the company.  The true retail price of the current 4th Generation iPhone, if you were to go into an AT&T, Verizon, or Apple store and not sign a contract, is $600 for a 16gb and $700 for a 32gb.  For a 3Gs iPhone with 8gb of memory, be prepared to hand over around $500.

AT&T does offer something called an “Early Upgrade” with iPhones.  This allows the customer to purchase a new iPhone before their next upgrade date by signing a new two year contract.  For the new contract, you would get a different subsidized price and the Early Upgrade prices are pretty high.  For a 4th Generation iPhone, you will pay $400 for a 16gb iPhone, and $500 for a 32gb iPhone.

The frustrating part for iPhone repair companies is that most people have no clue their phone is actually repairable in almost all cases.  Customers who bring their broken devices into an Apple, AT&T or Verizon store looking for a solution are led to believe that they have only one option, which is to purchase a new phone at high prices.  Of course, this is money in the bank for these companies.  If your device was lost or stolen, the only way to replace it is to buy a new one, however, there is no reason to take that kind of loss on an iPhone that is merely damaged.  Repairing your iPhone is completely worth your money.  Anything else would be like buying a new car because you got into a minor traffic accident.  In reality, almost all repairs for the iPhone 3G, 3Gs and 4th generation can be done for less that $100.  that mean you can save over $200 if you repair your existing iPhone rather than agree to an early upgrade.

What if your current iPhone is broken, but you are eligible for an upgrade and able to buy a new iPhone 4 at the $200 – $300 with a new two year contract?  Is it still worth the money to repair the broken iPhone even though you can upgrade it?  Absolutely.  You could invest in repairing your current device and then sell it for the same price, if not more than an iPhone 4 at the subsidized price.  These used phones, undamaged and in working condition, sell for for over $200.  By not repairing the damaged iPhone, you are either going to discard a used device worth over $200, or you are going to give it to a third party who will repair it and possibly resell it.

No matter what, it is always economical to repair a damaged device in any situation, even if you are doing so just to sell it.

The iPhone 4 has definitely had some hick-ups with its’ release. From retina display issues, antenna issues, to the glass breaking right off the bat. iFixYouri has had calls and done repairs on it all with the iPhone 4. People criticize, people hate, and people love. No matter what it is, there will be people on both sides of the fence.

Here comes the Droid X, the iPhone 4’s arch enemy. Apple fanboys hate it. Droidboys love it. All new, ground breaking technology will have its’ glitches. Apple is not excluded from this, and apparently neither is Motorola.

With the Motorola Droid X hitting the market, problems began to arise with the release of the phone, just like the iPhone 4 had. Perhaps it was not on such a grand scale, since the market for the Motorola Droid is not quite the size of the Apple iPhone market(though it is growing). According to TGDaily.com:

A small amount of Droid X owners are reporting that without warning their phone’s screen suddenly began flickering. In some cases, the phone display is rendered completely useless. In all cases that were posted on tech site HowardForums, where the reports began to surface, the device worked properly at first but after several hours or even days, the screen became glitchy.

Motorola was quick to issue a software fix to this problem, but what this does is show that no electronic device, no matter who the company is, is immune to problems. As Google’s Droid platform is introduced to more and more phones(Motorola and HTC), other smartphone manufacturers’ market share will surely grow closer and closer to Apple’s position #3. The more of these smartphones there on the market, the more problems will be noticed.

With each new piece of technology, will come problems. It is near impossible to do the level of in-house testing that 500,000 people can do when a product is released to the general public. The huge scale of phones that Apple cranked out last month definitely did some real world testing and now it was Motorola’s turn to step to the plate.

Apple and Motorola  did not pass with flying colors, but they both will have their days. We forgive both, and feel that as long as the companies providing these products is striving to fix what went wrong, we see it only fair to move on. As with any new release, there will be new problems. Look at car manufacturers. Rule of thumb is to never purchase a new model car the first year they come out. Why? Because they have problems. The fact is, technology, like cars, are made to break. Now-a-days,we are trained to toss and replace, rather than repair and re-use.

Lets move on. Drop antennagate, forgive Motorola. These things will happen and no company or person is perfect. Whether you need iPhone repair, or Droid Repair, your phone can, and will, break. There is no way around this fact, and unfortunately for some, it happens right in the beginning of the technology’s life.

There were the days of hopes and dreams of a shatter proof iPhone glass. During the WWDC Jobs spoke of the glass as being Engineered Glass.

All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It’s also recyclable.

We are seeing such a high iPhone 4 repair demand for glass replacement already, as well as the back glass replacement. The iPhone is not even a week old and we’re already seeing this as a major, major problem, but now with 2 times as much glass as before.

One customer contact us stating that he had left his iPhone 4 sitting in his car, which got hot, and well, when he returned, he was in need of an iPhone screen repair. The heat had actually cause the screen to crack. Our thoughts on this are that the metal frame got so hot that it heated the glass up to an unstable temperature, and it cracked.
