The future of cell phone water damage

With new technology coming out every day, its tough to see an end in “what will they come out with next.” I remember the day when cell phones hit the market and people were carrying around a large briefcase that was actually their phone. They’ve evolved quite a bit over time and now they’re so small, sleek, and shiny with their fancy touch screens and features. Was their water damage back in the day? Probably if you got stuck in the rain carrying your briefcase. It’s not like today where you stick it in the pocket of your Boardshorts and forget it’s in there until you go for a swim. All the major manufactures are designing these crazy awesome devices that will do everything except print money to pay for themselves. HTC water damage repair, iPhone 5 water damage repair, samsung water damage repair, it doesn’t matter what device you drop, there will be a need for repair. Devices will evolve, and unfortunately people will be careless. On a good note, we’ll be here to help though.

A creative way of shipping in your device

During our daily shipment today we received a package that was shipped in. From the outside it looked normal, sturdy box. When we opened it, well, it was creative. A new twist on air-packing. This customer partially inflated 20 or so balloons, and stuck the phone in bubble wrap in the middle of them. A+ for creativity and your phone making it to us safely! Packing peanuts…naaaaa….void filler paper….naaaa….more bubble wrap…no chance! How about 20 some odd partially inflated balloons! Perfect! If this customer reads this post….we’re not judging…just sharing the creativity that you brought to the table when shipping in your phone. For that we say thanks from the iFixYouri Team!

iPhone Water Damage – What really happens?

iPhone water damage can be a real tragedy. At iFixYouri, we’ve repaired hundreds of thousands of water-damaged devices, and heard every kind of story imaginable. You can be enjoying a beautiful summer day when your good buddy decides to cool you off with a little surprise dip into the pool. Unfortunately, your iPhone takes a dip with you.

Now that it’s nice and hydrated, what happens to your phone?

What a lot of folks do is let it completely dry, maybe in a ventilated place or next to a heater. Once it’s dry, they turn it on and start using it again. This is probably the worst thing you can do. If you never take your phone for a proper cleaning of the motherboard and other internal parts, corrosion and mineral deposits will sit on the board and slowly eat away at it.

Think of it as rust on a car. You may start with a small pit mark, but with age and time, this pit mark will spread to something far more significant, damaging the rest of the body work. Over time, your phone’s parts will die one by one, and eventually you will have a non-working phone. With a quick cleaning performed as soon as possible, your phone can have a full, healthy life post-dunk.

So why exactly does a water-damaged iPhone stop working? What does the corrosion do?

In this image, you can see a short on one of the circuits. This is caused by either the phone being powered on during initial contact with the water, or the attempting to see if the phone still has power by trying to charge it. These are both big no-no’s. If your phone gets wet, immediately power it off and do not charge it. Place it in a bag of silica gel and get it professionally cared for.

There are 3 or 4 water damage sensors on every iPhone, depending on the version: 1 in the headphone jack, 1 in the dock charging port, and 1 (or 2) on the mother board.

Corrosion on any of the circuits, coils, or resistors needs to be removed properly. It will spread, cause shorts, and malfunctions if it is not cleaned using the correct equipment.

The combination of any of these will cause your phone to not function correctly. Contrary to what people believe, a the majority of water-damage issues can be repaired and phone can be brought back to good, working condition. If you happen to drop your phone in water, please contact us as soon as possible. We’re here to help, and by all means, reach out to us. Water damage repair is a very difficult process, but the rock-star technicians at iFixYouri have years of experience and can quickly, easily, and affordably get your phone to like-new condition and back in your hands as soon as possible.

iPad 1 vs iPad 2 glass…the predecessor doesn’t stand a chance

We had some pieces of glass laying around the shop and wanted to see if the original iPad glass held up any better than the iPad 2. Is the iPad 2 going to hold up and better than the original? See for yourself. It’s definately lighter, thinner, and yes, stronger. Perhaps the thought of an iPad 2 repair will pass by your mind when you pick up Apple’s latest device. We shared this video with our friends at 9to5mac. Enjoy!

iPad 1 vs iPad 2 weight differences

Let’s start with the weight:

Here’s a breakdown of weights:

iPad 1 – 712.60g
iPad 2 – 600.60g

iPad 2 – 112g lighter

ipad 1 front half(LCD & Glass assembly) – 347.90g
ipad 1 back half – 364.70g

ipad 2 front half(LCD & Glass) – 263.20g
ipad 2 back half – 337.40g

Where’d they save the most weight? I’d say with eliminating the frame that the glass sits on, using thinner LCD and thinner glass, they saved 84.7g. That makes up for 75% of the weight reduction.
