iFixYouri talks to NPR re: water damaged iPhone

Recently our friends over at NPR on a segmant called how to do any gave us a call asking us what we would recommend to do if you suffer from iphone water damage. Well, in a nutshell, take your device and stick it in a bag of rice and let it sit in there for about 2 days.

It was pretty fun. We chatted with the hosts of “How to do everything” for a while and wanted to say a quick thanks!

iFixYouri Has Opened 2nd Store in Boston Area!

BOSTON, Ma. – iFixYouri, the nation’s premier source for smartphone and small electronics repair, has opened a new repair location on Newbury St. in Boston, Ma. This location offers iPhone repair, and fixes all smartphones, iPads, iPods, game consoles and personal computers; many of which can be completed while you wait. This new location opened in March 2012 and offers a 1 year warranty on glass repair and a 90 day warranty on other repairs, free diagnostic services, and the lowest price guaranteed on all repairs.

Owner Christopher Johncke said “We’re ecstatic to become part of Newbury St, Boylston St, and the Back Bay neighborhood. We are looking forward to growing with the community and providing a great service to all of our customers.” For the past year, iFixYouri has been in business with their first Boston shop located in the Cambridge/Somerville areas. He added, “We base our business on the fact that we want to satisfy each and every customer. We want them to have an experience with our business that is second to none. You broke your device, we can and will fix it and make it function just like new. Whether you need to fix your iPhone or iPod, or need an iPad repair, most repairs can be completed while you wait. That makes our service extremely convenient for our customers.”

The repair techs at iFixYouri have seen, and repaired, nearly every type of damaged iPhone, iPad, iPod, personal computer and all other electronic devices. From owners placing phones in toaster ovens to dry out water damage, to construction workers dropping an iPhone into a cement mixer, to iPad’s falling off of five story buildings. They have seen and repaired it all.

In a day and age where consumers rely on their mobile devices to guide their daily lives from email, GPS, games, social media and more, it is no wonder that the demand for repair needs are on the rise. Smartphones and tablets are experiencing more accidents, most commonly water damage and broken screens.

The option to replace these costly devices is not often available for the average consumer. When devices break, consumers now find themselves disconnected from their social and professional world. iFixYouri offers a solution alternative to just replacing the device. For a fraction of the cost to replace the device, iFixYouri can repair damaged smartphones, iPads, iPods, game consoles and computers.

They also have repair services and programs to support businesses, Government, and educational institutions whose employees/students are using devices that break. If you are not near one of the many walk-in locations, iFixYouri offers a full line of mail-in repair services through their website.

iFixYouri will be offering the same great service that the Somerville/Cambridge location has been offering for the past year! The new location is right on the corner of Newbury St and Fairfield St, about 400 ft. from the once world’s largest Apple store.

Their new shop is located at:

247 Newbury St
Boston, MA 02116
(857) 233-4747

Kindle Fire Repair Services are now live!

So we’ve recently had an overwhelming request for Kindle Fire repairs. Not sure what happened but we had seemingly disregarded the pretty little kindle fire and not had the repair services listed on our website. That is all fixed now! If you are in need of a kindle fire glass repair, look no further!

The kindle fire is very similar to the iPad, but smaller, and more inexpensive. It has a glass screen that is easy to touch(yay!!!), and a separate LCD screen below that can be repaired by itself. We prefer the glass to be separate from the LCD, as it makes repairs for the device much more affordable for the end consumer.

Should you need any help with any of your devices, we’re here to help. Give us a shout and we’ll be there for you.

Time to go help some customers and tend to the phones and emails! Have a good day!

The future of iPad is finally clear…

So we’re all pretty stoked here at iFixYouri about the latest and greatest iPad that is coming out. We were all quite unsure of what it was going to be called. We actually had a friendly wager going on here at the office as to what it would be named. Unfortunately, all of us got it wrong so the wager was a wash.

Apple pitched it as “The New iPad”…so basically it just took on the original name…iPad. Clever huh? We thought so. It was kind of off from apple to revert back to a name they had already used. Apple surprised us on this one.

We’re very excited to announce that we’re already starting to receive parts for the New iPad, or the iPad 3, or the iPad 3rd generation, whatever you want to call it. Our iPad 3 repair services are up and listed on our website, and we’re looking forward to helping out those in need, whenever is needed.

I think my favorite feature is that the screen is going to be MORE clear than that of an HD tv. It amazes me that something like a television now a days is so clear it is like looking through a window, and to imagine that a portable handheld device, is going to have a display that is better quality than that, well that is just down right incredible.
The retina display of course will be backed by a faster, A5x quadcore processor. The new iPad will carry the same sleek design that its’ predecessor had, and come in both black and white front glass.
The demand for iPad 2 repairs has skyrocketed. We feel that this may be due to the glass sitting on top of the frame, rather then in the frame like the iPad 1.
We’re gearing up for the iPad 3 and will be ready to service any needs that you have. Have a question or just want to chat? Give us a call 888-494-4349 or email us at [email protected]

Just dropped my cell phone in water now what?

Hello iWorld,
We are often asked by our amazing customers from all over the country, “What is the best thing to do once my phone is exposed to water damage?”. iFixYouri has fixed phones that have been run through washing machines, dropped in toilets, fallen off boats, thrown in beer pong cups, swam in the pool, and even found in puddles the next day. Please follow these steps below to ensure the safety of your phone:

1) The phone needs to be turned off. This way there is no power running through the device. This will often cause long term damage. It’s not necessarily the water that causes the non repairable issues to your beloved iPhone, but if a component of the motherboard is shocked it is extremely difficult to repair.
2) Remove the moisture from inside the device. The best way to do this is by placing the phone in a bag of rice for 24 to 48 hours. Most people use a bag of rice since it is readily available. Silica can also be used however. Another tip is to remove your sim card tray to help with this process. We are located in Florida so I often suggest to fellow Floridians to leave the bag of rice on the dash of your car to help.
3) Once the device is dried out you can attempt to power up the device. Majority of times though corrosion has already built up on the motherboard and will need to be cleaned off. We use a fantastic ultrasonic and chemical cleaning process to accomplish this and have a 90% success rate. If the device does not power back on, there is still a great chance we can repair the device.

iFixYouri’s iphone water damage repair process has a 90% success rate and take anywhere from 1 to 5 business days. The repair typically runs about $29.99 for the cleaning process. Once we have a good working motherboard without any corrosion, rust, or other junk on it, we will install back in it’s original housing. If any additional parts are needed we will contact you with an estimate before we install any parts. We will also email you along the way with updates anytime one of our skilled professionals work on your device. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our water damage department at (888) 494-4349.

I dropped my iphone in…

So you’ve dropped your iphone in the toilet, perhaps a cup of coffee, or maybe some soda?

You’re unsure of what to pick for your repair. Well, our iphone water damage repair service actually covers all of those. Whether it’s a syrupy concoction of vodka and cranberry or a hot cup of black coffee, they all really fall into the same category.

What happens when you drop your phone in any type of liquid is that all the components get covered in that substance. When an outside liquid is introduced to electronics, it interferes with the logic board ‘passing information’ between components and functioning properly.

Some liquids cause corrosion, some don’t. Salt water is one of the bigger culprits of corrosion, while coke or pepsi tends to just leave a nasty sticky residue around.

The first step in any liquid damage is to disassemble the phone and properly clean the board. In order to do this, we’d recommend sending it in for our water damage repair service. Carrying a 90% success rate, we are the best in the business and it is a service that thousands of customers rely upon per month. Hopefully this will have cleared up a few questions that we had come through. If not, shoot us an email or give us a call, we’ll be happy to clear things up more for you! iPhone 3Gs and iOS5 battery drainage problems

We’ve been getting quite a few customers asking questions regarding upgrading their 3Gs to iOS5. Here’s a couple brief notes on our findings and some places you can go for further information.

CNET Reviews Mobile section editor Kent German said that when iPhone 3G users first upgraded to iOS 4.0, manynoticed the phone slowed down and the new software drained the battery.
Apple says that the new iOS 5 software is fine for iPhone 3GS devices. The software has been out less than a week, and there are complaints from some users. The biggest issue I’ve heard from people is regarding battery life. One iPhone 3GS user vents his frustration on an Apple message board:
“Upgraded my 3GS to iOS5 on Wednesday and now it runs out of battery after about 6 hours with no use, 4 hours or less with occasional email use. Had to recharge it 3 times yesterday, and after 4 hours today…Never had these issues until this upgrade.”

If you do decide to upgrade, keep in mind that things can go wrong. And if you’re a few minor updates behind on your device, there’s more of a chance that the software will get hung up when you try to update. That’s why it’s very important that you backup up your iPhone before you begin updating the software. (To do that you simply plug in your phone to iTunes and sync it.) That way, if something goes wrong, you can completely wipe the device and start from scratch. And you’ll be able to reload it with everything you originally had on your phone.

Everything had been going smoothly until I decided to download iOS 5.0.1. And over the past few weeks, I began to notice some of the problems that many of you wrote in to complain about.
Specifically, the sluggishness and battery life that seems to be getting worse every day.
