Top 10 Things You Should Know about the iPhone 5

The hype, the hysteria, OMG it’s just around the corner! The iPhone 5 is about to burst. It’s all over the news, people will soon enough be starting to line up and wait for hours for the new iPhone 5 that is coming out. Rumors upon rumors upon rumors. Apple has this unprecedented way of building and spreading the word of a new device, months before it is even announced. Apple stock is climbing, parts images are leaking, and people are praying, praying for a new model. One thing that amazes us to this day is the common occurrence that people with say an iphone 3gs that is broken, rather than upgrading, they tell us “i just want to get this one working again so I can wait for the 5.” It’s like folks think so far ahead with these devices. People will for sure say “i’m just going to wait for the 6, when they bring in their 4/4s for repair.” A little sidetrack there, we just keep thinking 2 steps ahead just like everyone else.

We’re hoping that this will clarify and solidify some of these rumors with our good-ole 2 cents..

1) The new iPhone 5 will have a larger screen

2) Apple is hosting a special media event on September 12, 2012. Seems fitting.

3) The new iPhone 5 should have high-speed LTE connectivity and run iOS 6.0.

4) iOS 6.0 will have 3D maps.

5) There will be no ‘virtual/hologram keyboard’

6) The back will be a unibody style design, brushed aluminum.

7) The redesigned dock/charging port will not be the same as those on the previous iphones and ipods. We believe this to be due to the fact that it will be supporting USB 3.0

8) It should have the A6 processor.

9) Yes, it will have the retina display.

10) There will be a slight bump in battery size, this is to ensure that the larger screen doesn’t drain the battery super quick.

You will have to wait in a tremendously long line to get it or order it in the mail. We are just as excited as you are to get our hands on one, but just like you guys, we’ll have to wait and see! We’re already lining our ducks in a row to ensure that we’re ready to perform the first wave of iphone 5 repair services that come through our door

Our drive and passion come from this need in today’s technology driven day to have these devices with us at all times, and the joy that we bring to people when we successfully fix their broken, smashed, once-unusable device.

If you think you’ve done a number on your device, or have some embarrassing way of rendering your device unconscious and not functioning, check out some of these comments from our customers(we’ve kept you anonymous), that they included when sending in their mobile devices. We thought they were interesting and would be worth sharing. We’re glad to be here to help folks in their time of need. Keep in mind we’re here to help! • Was dropped off dock into lake.
  • Phone was on, plugged in and charging overnight, next to a glass of water. Condensation from the cup pooled around phone, I woke up and the back was wet. Moisture may have leaked into dock connector. Phone functions fine, but won’t acknowledge when it’s plugged in, and won’t charge or sync.

Summertime Safety Precautions for Your Mobile Device

If you’re going to the beach, leave your iPhone at home. We know how great it is to bring your phone with you to the beach and be able to text and surf the internet, maybe snap a photo of some waves, birds, or scenery. We also know how often we have customers contact us wondering why their phones stopped working.  Well, we’ve seen it all too many times where a customer jumped in the ocean with their phone in their pocket, and the salt water did a number. If you’re going to bring it to the beach, get a waterproof case. Something like the lifeproof case or something as simple as the aquapac. This will provide ample protection and insure that your mobile device will not get sand in it or get wet. Do this before you go to the beach.

If you’re going on a boat, leave your phone in the dry storage. Most boats have some kind of dry storage. You can’t anticipate when you will get wet on a boat, but chances are, you will, and if your iPhone is out, so will your iPhone.  iPhone water damage is only repairable about 90% of the time and it is not a quick and easy repair. Stay safe, stay dry. Should you find yourself with a wet phone, do not try to power it on. If it went in salt water or chlorine, rinse it with fresh water and then put the device in a bag of silica gel or dry uncooked rice. Let it sit for 24-48 hours before trying anything.

Do not leave your phone in the car if you live in a hot area. Heat can kill LCD screens. We’ve seen many times where a device was left in the car, and the heat basically heated up the LCD screen to the point where it was done. Done as in non-functioning.

Expect the unexpected. People get wild during the summer. If you live in an area where during the winter, people hibernate, summer is the time for people to come out of the wood works. Get a good case. We always recommend Speck, Lifeproof, or the Otterbox. These 3 cases will offer you the best protection money can buy. Get a screen protector. Keys will scratch a screen. Better to scratch a $5 screen protector. If you’re not a fan of a case, get a nice skin or some body armor for your device.

If you’re out and about, make sure you activate location services and activate a little program called “Find my phone.” It’s free and simple. It basically allows to you find your phone using the GPS should you misplace it or leave it somewhere.  The great thing is, in the awful case that some snags your iPhone, you can remote wipe it so no one can get access to your information

Lastly, keep a passcode on your phone. It amazes me so much that people store similar info, if not more secure info on their phones, and don’t password protect it. Trust me, do it. If someone gets your phone, they can easily get your email, and potentially get on banking or other apps/web sites that contain sensitive information.

If the unfortunate happens to your mobile device, remember, iFixYouri is here to help you out! Just pop us an email or give us a call, we’ll be happy to answer any/all of your questions!

Happy Birthday Mr. iPhone! You are about to turn five!

Thousands upon thousand packed the streets in front of Apple stores and at the time, only AT&T stores to cough up a chunk of change to hold in their hand and own what became a cultural phenomena.  In a quick 3 days, apple sold a million of them.

Critics thought the device was too expensive and wouldn’t sell. They thought it was a cool device, but since the customer was stuck with only AT&T at the time, and also stuck using iTunes software, it was doomed to fail. Out came the App store that helped strengthen the hold on the customer and came to deepen the bond that was iPhone and iPhone user. Over 650,000 apps are available on the Apple App Store. 30 billion downloads have been made. The iPhone had proven itself and in a short time, it won over even the toughest of critics.

Regardless of the lack of open-source, people still loved it. Apple made it so that there was only one way(without jailbreaking), to install apps, transfer data and music, and sort your pictures. The iPhone did what every other device that was coming out on the market was trying to do. It created a loving relationship and a simple way to combine an internet communicator, a camera, an ipod, and a phone all into one.

It is the premier consumer device in modern times, and has created industries single handedly. iFixYouri for example, spawned from a single broken iPhone. It all came from one single iphone repair. Model after model, droves of people line up outside stores during launch time to be the first to own the next greatest device of our times. Images get leaked months prior, people go nuts and rumors spread like wildfire.  In the first quarter of 2012, Apple reported more than 400,000 activations per day. Yes, I said 400,000.  That means their global sales have recently doubled. Absolutely insane.

We feel that the iPhone has a usability that is unmatched. It’s literally so easy to use a 1 year-old knows how to use it. That’s the key. Keep it simple.

The iPhone is not only the world’s most popular smartphone, it makes Apple a ton of cash. Apple sells only 9% of the cellphones out on the market, but accounts for 73% of the industry profits.

The fact that there are over 200 million of these devices on the market now has created a whole other industry. The industry that iFixYouri is in. We fix Apple products, and love fixing iPhones. Just think about that for a second. Apple creates so many devices that sell so well, companies can survive just off of fixing one product, of one company. Pretty amazing, and for this, all of us at iFixYouri say thank you and happy birthday iPhone. On June 29th, 2012, you will be 5 years old.

What iPhone Case is Right for You??

Hello iWorld,

The iPhone is one of the greatest pieces of technology out today, but as we all know is damaged very easily. Customers are always asking me recommendations to help protect their phone in the future. The best thing to do to prevent a cracked screen or water damage is to use a good iPhone case. I have chosen my favorite 3 cases on the market today, which are all available at any of our walk in locations or in our online store. Each case is different and excels in different areas.

Physical Damage: Otter Box Defender Series

If you find yourself constantly having to replace broken screens, the Otter Box Defender Series is great for you. The case has two layers of protection. The inner layer of the case is made of a hard plastic shell and screen protector. The outer layer is a thick silicone shell that helps absorb any impact your device might have. Now no case can completely protect your iPhone from any physical damage, but the Otter Box does a great job testing these limits. I’ve seen many customer and friends purposely drop their iPhone in an Otter Box to show off how durable it is. The case does help prevent water damage, but will not help if water is excessive or submerged.

Water Damage: LifeProof

The LifeProof case is simply amazing. This case is what anyone who has been affected by water damage is looking for. The case creates a seal around your phone and prevents any water from getting to the device. My favorite feature of this case is it allows you took take pictures and videos underwater up to 6 ft. Yes I said underwater! For anyone looking to get those epic vacation or weekend photos, this case is a must have. Something to breifly note is the headphone jack plug that is included in the case is very important and helps keep water out of the device. I have had numerous customers not realize this and still damage the device. The case does a decent job protecting against physical damage, but should be avoided. If you are frequently near water and are worried about losing your device and information on it, fortunately these needs are now met with the LifeProof case and iCloud. iCloud is a great feature and I am constantly advising customers to set it up on their phone. iCloud is available on the latest update and automatically stores your cell phones info on an online server.

Best Overall: Specks’ Hard Candy Shell

Of all the cases on the market, personally I feel that Specks’ Hard Candy Shell is the best. The case is slender and offers a good deal of protection. Most of my fellow iFixYouri technicians also use this case on their own iPhones. The case like the Otter Box has two layers of protection. The inner layer is a thicker silicone case that helps absorb any shock the phone might get from dropping. The outer layer is a hard plastic case that helps spreading out the shock to the inner layer when dropped. My favorite feature of this case is it easily slips in and out of my pocket. The case can be hooked up to most chargers and easily separated for dock connector accessories. The case is even raised around the sides, which helps prevent the glass from actually striking the ground.

If you have any questions regarding which case is best for you, please contact our nation wide mail center at 561 328 9535 and one of my fellow skilled technicians would be happy to assist.
