My new favorite place for phone and computer issues!  I took my laptop in with overheating and other issues and Louis did a great job diagnosing and repairing the problem. While there I also had him replace a cracked screensaver for my iPhone–$20 well spent, and cheaper than my last one from the phone store.  Very professional and helpful–glad I went there.

Got here at 9 when opened. In and out in 5 min. Went to Starbucks and worked then came back after an hour and my iPhone 7 screen is replaced – now on my way. Corporate-owned assured me of their best-in-class service. Fixed my surface screen last year here too. Asked about their coupon!

How Apple Has Deconstructed The iPhone Throughout The Years

The iPhone 2G was the first revolutionary phone for its time, released in 2007 with a 2-megapixel camera and 3.5-inch display. With each new iPhone released, it seems as if a popular feature from the previous model is dropped. As we move forward into the iPhone 13 (TBA) era, features and specs will be nowhere near the same. Here is how Apple has deconstructed the iPhone throughout the years.

Goodbye Headphone Jack, Hello AirPods

With new iPhones, Apple users seem to win some, lose some, and win some more. That was certainly the case with the iPhone 7.

For a time, all phones came with a jack to connect wired headphones. This makes sense since the iPod came first.

So when it was announced in 2016 that the iPhone 7 would not have a slot to plug in headphones, many people were baffled by the news.

How did Apple decide to eliminate the headphone jack, and how has this decision increased sales?

Apple allegedly shared that they decided to remove the headphone jack from their phones because they wanted to be innovative in the smartphone industry. Fair enough.

Others argue that the tech giant made this move so its iPhone would be sleeker-looking, water-resistant, and have more speakers.

AirPods was one of those additions.

This was not a bad thing though. AirPods are stress and tangle-free and easily pair with Apple devices via Bluetooth.

When The Home Button Got A Makeover

A redesign of the home button was one of Apple’s first attempts to redesign its smartphones with a sleeker look in mind.

iPhone’s first few models have had a square home button, similar to the key on a game controller. When Apple released the iPhone 5S, it introduced a circular home button instead.

A few other tweaks were made to the home button as well. The iPhone 7 not only took away the headphone jack but also the home button. There was still a “button” in place, but it is not mechanical. Instead, a feedback engine gives users the impression of a fake click.

And When The Home Button Disappeared

2017 was a busy year for Apple. The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X were all released within months of each other. The most noticeable difference between the two smartphones is the absence of a home button on the iPhone X. This change left many people in shock and asking “why get rid of the home button entirely?” Like mentioned before, Apple users win some, lose some, and this is a great example to show how.

By getting rid of the home button, users no longer have to worry about home button repairs

One less element to the device also means that there is more screen space. For reference, an iPad Mini has a 7.9-inch screen, an iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen, and an iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen.

Also, a button-free phone means a smoother, sleeker screen, which plays into the minimalist look many companies are striving for.

All of this is great, but how are people meant to navigate and unlock their phones without fingerprints on the screen?

A Different Type of ID

With no more home button, there was also no more Touch ID. If you do not own an iPhone X or later, the only way for you to unlock your phone is to punch in your passcode or use Face ID.

Apple has achieved this feat by using 3D mapping to identify your facial structure.

What’s Next For The iPhone?

Speculations suggest that Apple is working on doing away with the charging port and replacing it with its MagSafe charging system. MagSafe delivers a fast and reliable charge to your iPhone 12 using a magnet. If this gadget becomes more prominent, Apple is more than likely to design the next iPhone to be entirely port-free, and essentially waterproof.

What are your thoughts on owning an iPhone without any ports?

This Techie Often Reveals Apple’s Future Projects

Some may describe Jon Prosser as a very reputable person, while others describe him as an infamous leaker in the tech world. Whether you are for or against what he does, he is pretty decent at his job. This techie often reveals Apple’s future projects- and he’s right 78 percent of the time.

Prosser has been involved in the tech industry, specifically product announcements, for several years but made Apple his focal point in February 2020.

He has maintained an overall good reputation while leaking information because of his ability to back his claims up with valuable information and credible sources. According to different Apple rumor sites, Prosser has a mixed track record but is accurate more than 50 percent of the time.

Here are some of his past claims that have been correct and totally wrong, as well as his most current rumors.

Prosser’s Correct Claims

Throughout the year, Prosser has often been spot-on about product releases, pricing, and release dates.

The Time He Revealed the iPhone SE 2nd Gen

The gadget gossiper successfully noted that the release of the iPhone SE 2nd Gen would be announced at an Apple event on April 15, 2020.

Apple did indeed make the announcement on April 15, and pre-orders followed shortly after on April 17.

The Time He Revealed the 13” MacBook Pro Refresh

Prosser tweeted on April 4, 2020, that a new 13” MacBook Pro would be released sometime in May. He made a follow-up tweet exactly one month later stating that it was the device’s official release date. Apple released the device that day.

The Time He Revealed the iPhone 12

Months before the official announcement and release of the iPhone 12 line, Prosser nailed the right date as well as details such as the colors the device comes in.

Prosser’s Incorrect Claims

Prosser has leaked accurate information (or information within the same ballpark) about Apple devices a handful of times, like Airpods. But even with his reputation, he makes plenty of mistakes too.

Apple’s Switch From iOS to iPhoneOS

On June 18, 2020, Prosser made a tweet that simply reads “iPhone OS.” He as well as others speculated that Apple would do a little rebranding and switch from iOS back to iPhoneOS. As of March 2021, this switch has not happened and iOS 14.5 is actually expected to be released later this month.

AirPower

AirPower is a wireless charging mat that can charge up to three devices at once. Unfortunately, its 2018 release date fell through, and Apple eventually permanently canceled its release on March 29, 2019.

When the MagSafe and MagSafe Duo was released, Prosser speculated that the AirPower would be revived shortly after. He even went as far as to say that it would be released by late 2020 or early 2021, and retail for $250.

As of now, the AirPower charging mat remains a dead project, but let’s see what happens in the future.

Prosser’s Current Rumors

Apple Glass

Prosser said in May 2020 that Apple glass would make its debut in mid-2021 and retail for $499, plus the price of prescription lenses. While they will not be equipped with cameras, the glasses will still feature a LiDAR sensor to the top right.

24” iMac in Different Colors

He recently leaked information about the release of a 24” iMac this February. The iMac is said to come in the same colors as the iPad Air 4 and be inspired by the iPad Pro and Pro Display XDR.

AirTags

Apparently, AirTags uses the same concept as Find My Friends or Find My iPhone. The small disc-like tracking device is said to be released anytime this year and is intended to accurately track the location of the misplaced item it is attached to, such as car keys. Prosser leaked this information in October 2020.

Apple Game Controller

According to Prosser in a Twitter Q & A session, Apple is rumored to be working on a game controller and has been since 2019  in efforts to push Apple Arcade gameplay.

Foldable iPhone

Rumor has it that a foldable iPhone will hit the market sooner than later. Prosser says the foldable phone has two screens when folded, but folds out into a smooth, larger screen.

Whether or not these claims made by Prosser are right or not, the possibility of these devices coming to life is very fascinating.

When Will Self-Repairing Phones Arrive?

Apple is aware that at-home phone repairs are annoying and time-consuming. With this is in mind, it published a series of patents for a self-repairing device in 2014. Seven years later and this almost indestructible phone still does not exist. So when will self-repairing phones arrive?

Benefits of a Self-Healing Phone

Even though a phone company like Apple thrives from selling devices, and, in many cases, replacing broken phones, it believes the self-healing phone will be beneficial to all parties involved.

For customers, these devices would allow them to save time and money. They would spend less time making repairs and spend less money having to buy the tools to make the repairs.

For Apple, these devices would most likely lead to more business and happier customers. Based on past releases, customers new and old are going to be attracted to a self-repairing device because of how unique the concept is. The device would most likely cost a pretty penny, but it’s easy to understand why. Customers would also build trust with Apple for selling long-lasting phones, which would also result in them only buying a new phone when they want to rather than when they have to.

A self-repairing phone currently does not exist, but you can still save your time and money when you bring your damaged device to iFixYouri. And if you are ready to replace your phone and make extra money, turn to Tech Reboot.

The Future of the Water Damage Repairs

Apple first filed a patent for a self-healing phone in July 2014 that specifically focused on preventing water damage.

Imagine this: You accidentally drop your phone in a glass of water and begin to panic as you watch it submerge. Your first thought is to place your phone in a bowl of water. After leaving it overnight, you retrieve it with high hopes, only to realize that your phone has a broken loudspeaker

With Apple’s patent, water-damaged phones would use a special vibrate tone to push water out of the speakers and internal components.

There is a catch though. According to the patent, the device will only play when you are in a loud setting, such as a party.

And LCD Repairs

Referring to the scenario above, water damage can also ruin your phone’s LCD.

If Apple’s idea came true, you would no longer have to worry about this repair either. The patent states that your phone would be able to fix damaged pixels on an LCD by running a screen diagnostic that will take place overnight while you are asleep.

This diagnostic would also test your phone’s camera and repair any other issues you may have experienced throughout the day.

A Self-Repair Breakthrough

A University of Japan student in 2017 accidentally discovered glass that can repair itself almost instantly.

The polymer glass, known as polyether-thioureas, was accidentally discovered when a graduate school student was attempting to make glue. He realized that whenever he cut the polyether-thioureas it would easily adhere to itself after being pressed together by hand for a short moment.

Final Thoughts

Research shows that U.S. smartphone owners break an average of 2 million phone screens per year and spend over $10 billion per year on repairs.

Apple has published patents in hopes that it could help reduce these statistics and improve a phone’s screen and water damage repairs.

In the meantime, use protective and sturdy phone accessories.

And if your device is already broken, take it to a trusted tech repair shop where experts can help you out for an affordable price.

When Will Self-Repairing Phones Arrive? By iFixYouri

Is My Phone Actually Waterproof?

When buying a phone, many people make the mistake of confusing water-resistant for waterproof. A water-resistant phone can be disturbed by water to a certain extent, while a waterproof phone can be submerged in water without limitations. You may be asking yourself, “Is my phone actually waterproof?” Unfortunately, the answer is no, not quite. As of February 2021, there are no phones on the market that are truly waterproof. But many great phones just happen to be water-resistant.

The iPhone.

Six (phone) generations ago, people were so excited about the release of the iPhone 6S. They jumped to the conclusion that just because the new device is water-resistant, it could withstand going for a swim. A test ran by iFixYouri experts showed that the device performed well after being submerged in water for two minutes, except for the microphone and loudspeaker. These two hiccups solidify the fact that the iPhone has great water-resistance, but is NOT waterproof.

Apple has not released an official IP or Ingress Protection Rating for the iPhone 6, but it is predicted to have a rating of IP66. The higher the number, the more resistant a device is. Thankfully the iPhone has improved greatly since then.

iPhone 12 Line

The iPhone 12 line was released in October 2020 and has received praise for its camera quality, display, and durability.

It is rated as IP68 and can be submerged in 20 feet of water for 30 minutes without major damage done.

As a plus, the iPhone 12 is just as durable on land as it is in water, being that its Ceramic Shield display adds extra protection. For the best protection, consider getting a protective case

iPhone 11 Line

The iPhone 11 also has a rating of IP68, but can only be submerged in 6.5 feet of water for 30 minutes without major damage done. The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max have the same rating but can withstand 13 feet of water which is twice as much as the iPhone 11.

So if you are looking for a water-resistant phone but want to save hundreds, consider the iPhone 11.

The iPhone X Line

According to Apple, the iPhone X and iPhone XR have a rating of IP67 and can withstand a maximum depth of 3.2 feet for up to 30 minutes. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have a rating of IP68, with a maximum depth of 6 feet for 30 minutes.

What Apple Has to Say

On Apple’s informational page titled “About splash, water, and dust resistance of iPhone 7 and later,” it states what to avoid to prevent water damage.

  • Bathing and/or swimming with your phone
  • Bringing your phone into contact with pressurized or high-velocity water (surfing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, etc.)
  • Using your when in a sauna or steam room
  • Purposefully submerging your phone in water (There is no need to bathe your phone)

Samsung Galaxy

Take note that the Samsung Galaxy is also praised for being one of the best water-resistant devices on the market.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra: IP68; Can withstand 5 feet of water for 30 minutes

Samsung Galaxy S21: IP68; Can withstand 5 feet of water for 30 minutes

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: IP68; Can withstand 5 feet of water for 30 minutes

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: IP68; Can withstand 5 feet of water for 30 minutes

When shopping for a phone, if your priority is its durability, you will not have to look far or sacrifice too much money with a Samsung. The Galaxy FE starts at $699, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra starts at $1,399, even though they both have the same IP rating.

Phone Etiquette Dos and Don’ts to Practice and Avoid

Naturally, your language will differ depending on who you are on the phone with. You may use casual language with your friends and family, endearing language with your spouse, and professional language with your boss. Unlike with your friends or spouse, you must maintain professional language and use phone etiquette at all times when in your workplace. Here is a rundown of phone etiquette dos and don’ts, especially if your job requires you to always be on the phone.

Phone Etiquette Dos

Proper phone etiquette is important because it allows the person on the other side of the call to build their trust with you and become receptive to what you are saying.

Answer Calls As Soon As Possible

Obviously, one of the most important ways to practice phone etiquette at work is by answering the phone. There is no excuse for you to not answer a phone call within three rings if the phone is sitting on your desk or you are not on a lunch break.

The person who is calling for assistance may become impatient, hang up, and not call back. This turns into a missed opportunity for you and your company as well as the customer.

In the case that you are never able to hear when your phone rings, your phone may have a broken loudspeaker

Speak Clearly and Use Appropriate Volume

Be mindful that the only way for you to make a first impression on the phone with a customer is with your voice. This is why speaking clearly and using appropriate volume is important.

Not only does speaking clearly save you from having to repeat yourself, but it also helps you avoid saying something that can easily be misinterpreted or misheard.

You should also be mindful of your tone of voice and the volume in which you are speaking to a customer. One way to ensure you do this is by smiling as you speak because it is proven to make your voice sound brighter and more inviting. So even if you are not having the best workday, it won’t affect your interaction with customers.

If you are practicing this, yet still are not able to communicate clearly, it may be because your phone has a broken mic. Your mic may actually only be picking up every other word you say!

Actively Listen and Take Notes When Needed

The customer on the phone must know they have your attention and are being listened to. To prove that you are listening, it is important that you repeating the key points they make and occasionally interject a “yes” or “mhm.”

If your phone’s ear speaker is not working, it will be difficult for you to be a good active listener, and the customer may be led to believe that they are being ignored.

 Phone Etiquette Don’ts

To simply put it, you should never disrespect a customer you are on a call with, whether you agree with what they have to say or not. And sometimes it is hard to tell that you are being disrespectful in the first place.

You Should Avoid:

  • Interrupting a customer when they are speaking.
  • Ignoring a customer’s question, even if you don’t know the answer.
  • Talking down to a customer.
  • Purposefully hanging up on a customer.

In any case that the poor quality of your phone is affecting your quality of service, you should turn to a tech repair company such as iFixYouri, where repair experts will fix your phone’s flaws for an affordable price.

Fix Your Phone With an Independent Repair Shop

When your phone breaks, your first thought may be to take it to the large tech company where you bought it. But what if your warranty has expired? Or you can’t wait several weeks to get your phone back? Or all upcoming appointments are taken? Despite these obstacles, there’s still a solution- independent repair shops. Here’s why you should fix your phone with an independent repair shop.

Pros of Taking Your Phone to an Independent Repair Shop

There are many reasons why you should repair your phone with an independent repair shop, especially if you want to save money and time

Quality Parts For a Fraction of The Price

Whether your phone has a broken screen or dead battery, tech repair shops such as iFixYouri will repair your device with top of the line parts for a fraction of the price.

On top of our already reasonable repair prices, iFixYouri often offers additional discounts.

You should not have to pay extremely high prices for quality parts or full price for poor-quality parts that won’t last long.

Employees Have The  Same Type of Training

iFixYouri employees are trained just as well as employees working directly with a large repair company. From customer service and interactions to the actual repairs themselves, iFixYouri employees provide customers with the best service possible.

No Need to Make an Appointment and Same Day Service

When you take your device to a large repair company, more than often you are required to make an appointment before you can even step foot in the shop. Once you do finally get through with an appointment, you may still have to wait to get assistance. It would be a shame if, on top of all of the waiting, you still don’t get your device back in the same day.

Repair shops like iFixYouri provide same-day service and many times will have your device back in your possession within a matter of hours or days. This is possible because the employees work 1-on-1 with customers, rather than assisting several at once.

Your Original Device Can Be Saved

Many times, a large repair shop’s go-to solution is to order a phone rather than fix your device’s issue. Getting a brand new device does not sound bad at all, but there is a risk that your phone will not back up properly and you will have to start from scratch.

At iFixYouri, repair technicians tackle each repair effortlessly. There is no need to get your entire device replaced for simple repairs such as:

  • Glass and LCD Repair
  • Water Damage
  • Ear Speaker Repair
  • Volume Button Repair
  • Power Button Repair
  • Camera Repair
  • Charging Port Repair
  • Microphone Repair

If you do choose to get an entirely new device, sell yours to Tech Reboot, where you are guaranteed the most money back.

Cons of Taking Your Phone to an Independent Repair Shop

There are not many cons to taking your phone to an independent repair shop, and if you choose the right one, they can be avoided entirely.

Warranty Plans

The main con of taking your device to a third-party repair shop is the fact that the phone’s original warranty plan will be jeopardized.

This is because the phone’s manufacturer may not want to cover a device that was repaired by another company.

On the bright side, iFixYouri will assist you no matter what your phone’s original warranty plan is. Plus, every repair comes with an automatic 90-day warranty that covers all but accidental damage.

Not As Well-Known

Independent repair shops are not as well-known as large companies, but this does not mean that they are unreliable.

iFixYouri has been in business for 10 years, and since then has done over 300,000 device repairs and has over 30,000 happy customers.

Besides your phone, iFixYouri will also have your computer, tablet, and smartwatch working as good as new. So trust this independent repair shop, and save your money, time, and stress!
