This week’s employee spotlight focuses on Josh, general manager of our retail location in Winter Park! Josh has been repairing phones for iFixYouri for almost as long as he’s been growing out his exquisite handlebar mustache. He enjoys politics (he participated in the first weekend of Occupy Wall Street back in 2011) and playing bass guitar, jamming out with Neil from our Longwood store in their band Hazardous Folk. Josh is also from Jupiter, FL, hometown to several employees at our corporate headquarters and location of two of the newest iFixYouri stores. He also has a scary secret. Every October for seven years straight, Josh worked as a scare-actor for Universal Studios Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights, where he “made men and women pee themselves, fall over all sorts of objects, fall to the ground, cry, and run for their lives.” We’re glad he’s a little less spooky now; the only thing scary about Josh is how quickly and perfectly he performs repairs for our customers!
Happy new year from iFixYouri! Our first employee spotlight of 2017 is Michelle, our director of human resources and finance. This mom of two is responsible for combing through stacks of resumes, looking for those who are talented and hard-working enough to become our master iFixYouri techs. A native of Sweden, Michelle is also a proud UCF Knight and was once cast as Cinderella and several other princesses at Walt Disney World Orlando…but her oddest job was as a promoter for the Bud Light Taste Test Challenge. We’d like to thank Michelle for gathering important boozy info (Bud Light reportedly won), and also for being the check-signing, employee-hiring rockstar of iFixYouri!
We head back north for this week’s iFixYouri employee spotlight to bring you Anthony! When he’s not managing the iFixYouri location at the Cambridgeside Galleria, “Woodze” is a professional vaper, competing and attending vaping conventions all over New England. He’s also a typical Bostonian supporting the Bruins and the New England Patriots. Like most iFixYouri employees, Anthony listens to hard rock, metal, and the like, with his favorite being Florida natives A Day to Remember. A former worker in a seafood warehouse (“worst job I’ve ever had”), both Anthony and iFixYouri are happy to have him working in the warm, comfortable, unfishy environment of the mall, greeting customers with a smile and bringing their devices brought back to life.
This week’s employee spotlight shines on Mallory, lead technician at the iFixYouri on Donald Ross Road in Jupiter. Mallory is just all heart; when she’s not greeting customers with a smile and replacing screens with a practiced hand, Mallory is a mom to three rescued pups! She also enjoys getting tattooed and making her own clothes, and once worked as a graveyard-shift baker before becoming an iFixYouri rockstar. Speaking of rockstars, she’s also a big fan of Florida natives A Day to Remember. Thanks, Mallory!
This week’s employee spotlight moves to the front of the house. Jamie is often the first person our customers talk to when they’re interested in sending their phone, tablet, or laptop in for repair. As our customer service coordinator, she’s our in-house people-person, cheerfully answering the phone and reminding you that your device is in good hands. When she’s not providing excellent customer service, this former cupcake baker is a mom to “a plethora” of cats and cacti and also sells adorable homemade enamel pins (check out Pizza Squid below!). A self-described “really weird person,” Jamie is into crystals, knitting, exploring, and thrifting. I don’t think she realizes that we’re all fairly weird here at iFixYouri headquarters!
Our employee spotlight focuses on Neil, general manager of our iFixYouri Longwood, FL. Neil’s as much of a rocker as he is a repair guru, and an educated rocker at that. Neil holds a degree in Music Performance and Jazz Guitar from Seminole State College, and plays guitar professionally. You can find him in the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater’s orchestra or strumming his guitar and banjo for local theaters, including nationally touring musicals. Speaking of touring, Neil once worked as a roadie for a Led Zeppelin tribute band (though is rather mum about the crazy goings-on of rock ‘n roll lifestyle), though he currently plays in a band called Hazardous Folk, also featuring the manager of the iFixYouri Winter Park location. Together, they play a mix of blues, southern rock, jazz, and folk for the jam-minded music lovers of Central Florida. Check out the video below and prepare to get funky.
We go back to Orlando this week in our Employee Spotlight. While most of our employees are gamers in some form, Rich takes it to another level. When he’s not repairing devices at iFixYouri at The Mall at Millenia, he’s beating Ganon in record time…literally. Rich (or Richie) is a speedrunner, a member of a community dedicated to playing through (mostly retro) video games at lightning speed. He’s ranked in the top 3 for beating The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Nintendo, among others. Fitting hobby for a repair tech whose first-ever repair was on an old-school Nintendo system. He loves seeing customers smile when he hands their once-broken iPhone back in perfect working condition. “There’s a slight moment,” according to Rich, “where you really feel like the hero.” Probably feels a lot like Link holding up the Master Sword, huh?
Richie all dressed up at a speedrunning competition.
Today in our weekly Employee Spotlight feature, we shine a light on Tory, a man with so many interests, it’s tough to know where to start. He’s a gearhead who likes his wheels small and sporty, alternating his Scion FR-S with his 1990 Mazda Miata (his “track car”). He breakdances, rollerskates, and breakdances while rollerskating. He creates music, writing, producing and performing his own tracks. He’s an excellent amateur photographer. He’s into contemporary streetwear, blending hip-hop styling with athletic clothing and Japanese aesthetic to create a unique style. We’re really just scratching the surface (he also just got an adorable new puppy). Tory strives to be the best at whatever he does, and he brought that mentality to iFixYouri and quickly became our resident water-damage guru in Palm Beach Gardens. Big shout-out to Tory!
